Who I Am

I’m a copy editor, proofreader, and writer with eight years of professional experience. My office is in my home in Martinsburg, West Virginia, about two hours outside Washington, D.C.

What I DoDSCN4405_Cropped-2

I specialize in copy editing documents including magazine articles, research reports, white papers, case studies, blog posts, and more.

Through careful and precise writing and editing, I ensure my clients are sending clear, compelling messages to their audiences. I work with individuals, corporations, trade associations, professional organizations, marketing firms, and public relations agencies all over the United States.

Since February 2017, I’ve served as lead editor for TRUSTED, the biannual magazine published by the Council of Better Business Bureaus.

As a freelance writer, I write articles for select publications such as Toastmaster, which is read by members of the Toastmasters International organization in 141 countries. Since 2016, I’ve written half a dozen profiles on Toastmasters club members, including an Olympic gold medalist, a professional daredevil, and an elective mute.

I also contribute to several business blogs.

Where I’ve Been

Prior to launching Sheehan Writing & Editing in December 2014, I spent four years freelancing part time for local and regional magazines. By night, I wrote articles on a wide range of topics, including health and fitness, outdoor adventure, food and dining, and travel, while by day, I held down a series of staff jobs that helped me hone my editing and writing skills.

My past staff positions include communications specialist for a public relations firm, college textbook copy editor, and copy editor/page designer for a daily newspaper.

Where I’m Going

I’m on a mission to help people and companies make their words clear, concise, and memorable. If you need assistance in this area, email me at missy@sheehanwriting.com.
